Tavík František Šimon

E 'was a painter, engraver and woodcut artist.
František Simon was born and then adopted the additional name "Tavik", which was the maiden name of his mother, in fact, usually signed his works with the initials TF Simon. Born in
Železnice (town known at the time as Eisenstadtl) near Jičín. As a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Simon received a scholarship that allowed him to travel in Italy, Belgium, England and France.

exhibited in his first solo exhibition in Prague in 1905 and a show in Paris in 1906.

His long journey takes him to New York, London, the Netherlands, Spain, Morocco, Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), India and Japan, all places that appear in his paintings.
After the long period spent in Paris from 1905 to 1913, Simon returned to Prague and became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in the same city. In 1917 he became a founding member of czech Hollar of graphic artists, who then chaired.
Many of his most notable are in Prague, New York and Paris, but also portraits and self-portraits, images of the countryside czech and Slovak.

Simon's style was heavily influenced by French Impressionists and Japanese printing techniques, including aquatint.

Simon was also a master of the mezzotint, but who has completed a few prints with this difficult technique, most of which are female nudes in subtle tones of black.
E 'died in Prague in 1942. Largely ignored during the communist era in Czechoslovakia, his work has received increased attention in recent years.
