The Caffé Florian
He is considered one of the oldest cafés in Italy and given its prestigious location, just under the arcades of the Piazza San Marco in New Procuratie is almost a symbol of Venice.
was inaugurated in 1720 by Floriano Franciscans with the name "The Venice Triumphant" but soon began to be called Florian from his prestigious guests. Three hundred years of history have passed through its halls and in front of their windows: the fall of the Venetian Republic to the conspiracies of those who wanted to overthrow the French regime and then Austrian Unification of Italy to the World Wars. The Venetian noblemen and politicians, as Daniele Manin and Pellico, sat down to discuss affairs of state, men of letters and artists such as Carlo Goldoni, seeking inspiration, unrepentant womanizer, as Giacomo Casanova, entertained the ladies ( Florian was the first room in which the entry was granted to women). It was the place for gossip and frivolous chatter, so that Gaspare Gozzi decided that it was one of the few places where he could buy his Gazzetta Veneta. Over 800
Lord Byron, Foscolo, Goethe, Marcel Proust,
Gabriele D'Annunzio, Rousseau, Stravinsky
, Modigliani
sat at their tables.
Richard Wild and his friends decided right at the Caffe Florian to organize an art exhibition every two years: the International Exhibition 'or
Contemporary Art Biennale of Venice, for the note, which was later opened in 1895.
Today Caffè Florian, which adopted the idea from the start of the 900 traditional coffee together with a permanent orchestra, is still the place where Venice and the world incontrano.e where you could find yourself sitting next to celebrities and star film.
